Well this has been a crazy month with now 2 litters in our home with Kellie and Brodie proud parents of 4 puppies, 2 black and tan and 2 ruby puppies. Crazy but one boy, one girl each color. Slow start with challenges but all are getting by growing fast. Avery and Ruger had their litter of 5 with 4 tricolor and 1 blenheim. 2 girls....1 tricolor and 1 blenheim. Really slow start with low birth weights and a week of supplemental feeding to get them past birth weight one week later. Looks like we are on the upswing as Avery is now producing enough milk to sustain the puppies growth independently.
So if you missed the math, we currently have 9 puppies in the home from litters, as we added Willow to our fold of permanent residents for a total of 19 again! Willow is now 11 week old tricolor girl that will be our final acquisition to our breeding program as we plan to phase out/retire from breeding cavalier king charles spaniels over the coming years. Willow is AKC registered, solid background, DNA tested clear with excellent pedigree. We aren't "spring chickens" anymore and raising puppies has no on and off switch to take a break to enjoy life.
We love our cavaliers and being a model breeder in Virginia but it also takes a lot of time and patience to do what we do. This will be four litters so far this year and a total of 19 puppies year to date. We are working on filling requests of those on our waiting list as we continue to have others come to us for a cavalier puppy for their future. Thank you to those puppy parents that refer family, friends, neighbors or someone you casually met while out and about with your baby.
We are honored to be sought out by other new breeders of cavaliers to provide them with our experiences, insights and knowledges as we hope to mentor each. We hope to pass on our "breeding style" for cavalier puppies to dilute those breeders raising puppies in outside of the home where socialization and love may not be as deeply focused. Nothing against any breeder, but we believe puppies raised in the home with exposure to other dogs and individuals rounds out the outstanding repulation of this particular breed. We also are encouraged as we share experiences and referrals among other cavalier breeders across the U.S. Susan has a wealth of knowledge to share as we get vital perspectives from other breeders.
More to come including puppy pictures.....
